Empower

Using drama education for prevention and recovery from gender-based violence among young women

Building Health Literacy for All

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Act2Empower is an Erasmus+ youth project that uses drama education, theatre, and creative expression as powerful tools to prevent and address gender-based violence (GBV) among young people.

Through participatory workshops, theatre-based methods, and collaborative learning, the project creates safe and inclusive spaces where young women can build confidence, recognise harmful behaviours, and strengthen their voice and personal agency. At the same time, Act2Empower supports emotional recovery by using creative practices that encourage self-expression, resilience, and healing.

The project also engages young men as active allies in promoting gender equality and non-violence, while equipping youth workers, educators, and practitioners with innovative, trauma-informed approaches.

By bringing together organisations from across Europe, Act2Empower fosters dialogue, collaboration, and the development of creative tools that empower individuals and communities to drive positive social change.

Clear Goals, Real Impact

TARGET AUDIENCE

Act2Empower brings together young people and those who support them to foster empowerment, inclusion, and social change.

Young women

Young women (16–30 years old) who are at risk of or affected by gender-based violence (GBV), intimate partner violence, social exclusion, or harmful gender norms. The project supports them through safe spaces, empowerment activities, emotional healing, and creative self-expression.

Young men

Young men (16–30 years old) as secondary beneficiaries, encouraging them to become allies in GBV prevention by reflecting on harmful masculinities, developing empathy, and promoting equality and respectful relationships.

Empowering Youth Professionals

Youth workers, educators, community professionals, theatre practitioners, social workers, and therapists who work directly with young people. The project equips them with innovative drama-based and trauma-informed tools to support prevention, inclusion, and survivor recovery.

Local communities & stakeholders

Local communities and stakeholders, including families, community organisations, policymakers, and local audiences, who will benefit from increased awareness, youth-led dialogue, and campaigns challenging gender stereotypes and violence
